Viola da Braccio is hand-painted with oil paints on canvas stretched over a panel that is 1/8" thick. It is finished with a gloss varnish, and set in a 2" black, wood frame. The panel, unframed, is 12"x24". Framed, it is approximately 15"x27".
The subject is the artist's personal viola. The title reflects how the instrument would be listed in Italian on a conventional orchestral score. Viola da Braccio describes a viola held with the arm, rather than a viola da gamba, which rests between the legs, rather like a 'cello.
